Edinburgh firefighters tackle blaze at popular Indian takeaway and restaurant

Edinburgh emergency services rushed to Fountainbridge on Sunday afternoon after a fire broke out.

In images shared with Edinburgh Live, smoke can be seen billowing out of Indian restaurant and takeaway Guchhi India as firefighters crowd at the front entrance.

Nine fire engines and an ambulance are on the scene at East Fountainbridge Road after receiving a call at 4.21pm on Sunday March 12.

The road has been blocked off with Lothian Buses confirming that buses cannot serve Bread Street and East Fountainbridge and are instead terminating at Semple Street until further notice.

Bus services 2 and 35 are being diverted via Lauriston Place and Ponton Street west bound until further notice.

An eyewitness said: "Looks like a fire at a takeaway. Lots of people stopped to watch and pavement cordoned off. You can really smell the smoke blowing down the street".

The Scottish Fire and Rescue service said: "We received a call on Sunday March 12 at 4.21pm and nine fire appliances have been sent to East Fountainbridge Road and are currently at the scene dealing the incident."
