Two Edinburgh men with a passion for a good rugby game have started a fundraiser to help fans from underprivileged families to attend an upcoming 1872 Cup match in May.
Bruce Atchison from Happiness is Egg Shaped and Adam Cook at Fresh Urban Design started a campaign on the JustGiving website a couple of days ago, aiming to raise £2,000. They said: "We want to raise funds to allow us to buy tickets to the 1872 Cup on Saturday 21st of May for underprivileged families who couldn't normally afford to attend any sporting events.
"Any unused monies will be donated to My Name'5 Doddie Foundation in aid of MND."
Taking inspiration from another fundraiser that raised more than £7,000 for a Heart of Midlothian Football Club match, Bruce and Adam's initiative has now achieved 25 per cent of the set goal.
The match the two campaigners are hoping to raise money for is the Edinburgh against Glasgow clash, which will see two of the strongest teams compete with each other on the BT Murrayfield.
The fundraiser organisers said: "It's the big one! In a game that will see the best players in Scotland go head-to-head for intercity bragging rights."
The annual 1872 Cup event sees two Scottish professional clubs, Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh Rugby, battle each other in an eternal competition of who's the best. The tickets for the May 2022 match are now on sale.
