Edinburgh family-run restaurant claim top award just seven months after opening

A popular Edinburgh Asian restaurant has claimed a prestigious business award just seven months after opening their doors in the capital.

Shinwari, on Lady Lawson Street, opened in April and specialise in delicacies from Pakistan and Afghanistan. This week, the owners celebrated winning New Business of the Year 2022 at the Scottish Asian Business Awards.

Taking to social media to thank customers who have visited the restaurant in the short time they have been open, they said: "WE WON. New business of the year 2022.

"We would like to thank everyone who voted for Shinwari Edinburgh at The Scottish Asian Business Awards . We are completely overwhelmed with our first ever win seven months after opening our doors. We appreciate all of our customers & your continuous support."

Shinwari opened its doors on April 5 2022 with those behind the eatery saying they “feel so blessed to be opening during the holy month of Ramadan.”

Among the options often advertised as starters are: fruit chaat, vegetarian and meat samosas, vegetarian pakora, potato fritters, chicken and lamb kobeda kebab, steam chicken leg and chicken wings amongst many others that vary from day to day.

Whereas for the mains there are options of: Lamb shinwari karahi, chicken charsi karahi, kadhi pakora, daal tarka, channa masala, chicken biryani and naan amongst many other options that also very from day to day.
