Edinburgh drivers caught speeding as officers carry out residential spot checks

A number of Edinburgh drivers were caught out by police on Thursday (July 14) after they were seen speeding in and around the city.

Local officers issued a warning to motorists in the capital this week after they set up a number of speed checkpoints around the Corstorphine area.

Sharing an image of officers measuring speeds on smaller residential roads, they said that a "number of drivers" had been stopped for different speeding offences.

However, police also highlighted that many locals had been seen sticking to the rules. A tweet from Edinburgh Police read:

It comes less than a week after similar checks were carried out by road police on one of the main roads out of Edinburgh, the M8. In a similar warning, officers explained they had pulled over one vehicle speeding at 116mph.

A tweet read: "Over the weekend, #LivingstonRP stopped a driver for speeding at 116mph on the M8. As if that wasn't bad enough, they failed a breath test, took their parents car without insurance and had cannabis on them.

"Don't be a numpty, don't drink and drive."
