An Edinburgh driver has captured the heart-stopping moment his Audi is completely destroyed in a horror crash in Midlothian.

Ed Bewsher captured the dramatic moment on his dashcam after a vehicle lost control and collided into his Audi Allroad on the M6094 outside of Leadburn.

The incident took place on January 4 after another car lost control at around 60mph and smashed into his vehicle, destroying it completely.

The video begins with Ed cruising along the Midlothian road through the dark, taking all the turns carefully. This continues for the first part of the dashcam footage before bright headlights appear before and the cars smash together followed by a large bang.

Police attended the two car smash and the other driver admitted liability at the scene.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, the 48-year-old, said: "I escaped relatively unharmed from what could have been easily have been a fatal or very nasty head on collision.

"I was driving along a straight road south of Edinburgh minding my own business when an oncoming car lost control and crossed the centre white line straight into the front corner of my car doing 55mph, ripping the driver side wheel off, disabling both steering and brakes, caving in the driver side footwell to half its width and making short work of the driver’s side door, wing and floor.

"With only the left front wheel the car pulled straight left into a field. No trees on that section of road.

"The preceding miles are all lined with big lumpy mature trees, had I been a split second later the oncoming car would be right in front and not glancing.

"A 100+mph combined impact. All captured in 4k on my recently fitted dash camera.

After he posted the story to social media, one user said: Wow! You are so fortunate to walk away from this. Hope you have no long lasting injuries but you no doubt will be sore."

Another exclaimed: "That could have been a totally different outcome if it had been a smaller car! Hope it gets all sorted quickly with the insurance.."

While one added: "You’re a lucky man to walk away unscathed from that! Glad you are ok and well done Audi!"
