Edinburgh diver captures incredible footage of Firth of Forth wartime shipwreck

An Edinburgh diver was able to capture some incredible footage of a shipwreck close to Edinburgh that lies deep at the bottom of the Firth of Forth.

Posted by local surfer and diver @lloydyyb on TikTok, the footage quickly saw over 1,000 views in a day after he took the camera right to the bottom of the sea bed.

Lying in the Forth for over 100 years, the vessel is believed to have sunk in 1918, with some parts still almost intact but covered in thick layers of algae.

Filming the entire dive on a waterproof camera, @lloydyyb began on the surface before heading down on a rope towards the sea bed, with the ship slowly starting to come into sight.

Writing that things were "starting to get dark", the video then shows the edges of the ship, with a light being shone over the wreckage.

Explaining to viewers what each shot was, the video shows clips of the cargo hatch, and even a telegraph, which he claimed was showing "full steam ahead" when it sank.

Some sea creatures could also be seen having made their homes amongst the ship, from lobster to crabs, and a series of different nets.

Towards the end of the video, @lloydyyb also teased viewers with a 'mysterious box' that could be seen closed on the wreckage, but shared in the comments he was not allowed to open or remove it.

Site of the 'Battle of May Island' disaster in 1918, the Firth of Forth saw a number of vessels sunk in just one night.

Taking place on the night of January 31, five collisions occurred between Royal Navy vessels on their way out from Rosyth, which saw over 100 sailors die in the accidents.
