An Edinburgh couple are facing a jail sentence after they admitted to supplying quantities of ecstasy and cannabis from their home.
Umaymah Sharif and Hamid Iqbal were caught dealing the Class A and B drugs from their property at the city’s Willowbrae Road last year. Police officers received intelligence drugs were being supplied from the home and raided the property at around 12.30pm on January 28 last year.
Edinburgh Sheriff Court was told 22-year-old Sharif was within the address when officers arrived and she allowed them entry. A search of the living room and several bedrooms was conducted and a Tesco bag containing herbal matter was discovered in the pair’s room.

The court was told there were 41 separate bags of cannabis within the shopping bag along with “rocks of a crystal substance which were found to be ecstasy”. Police also uncovered a set of scales and the couple’s passports within the bedroom.
The court heard the value of the cannabis seized was £6375 while the ecstasy was said to be worth £400. Sharif was arrested that day and her 20-year-old partner Iqbal was subsequently arrested and charged after he attended at St Leonard’s police station on with his lawyer on March 1.
The court was told Iqbal committed the offence while on bail orders for two alleged similar offences. Sheriff Robert Fife said: “You will understand these are very serious offences before the court particularly with the value and the nature of the offences.
“You have been convicted of the supply of drugs and I will be considering a custodial sentence so you should be prepared for that.” Sentence was deferred to next month for the preparation of reports and restriction of liberty assessments.
