Edinburgh Council spent over £48,000 transporting Lord Provost to engagements over the last three years, the highest figure in Scotland and the third highest in the UK.
New research carried out by the Taxpayer's Alliance found that the local authority forked out £48,847 on fancy vehicles used to take the capital's Lord Provost and deputy lieutenants to civic engagements.
The money was used on two luxury BMW 730D diesel motors in the years reviewed. This is despite the city making significant efforts to increase the proportion of ultra-low emissions vehicles.
