Edinburgh commuters face delays due to multi-vehicle smash on Queensferry Crossing

Edinburgh commuters are facing delays due to a three-vehicle crash on the Queensferry Crossing during rush-hour.

The smash took place at 5pm on the northbound carriageway, between J1A A90, Queensferry to J1B B980, Ferry Toll Road, Ferrytoll, according to Traffic Scotland.

One lane remains blocked to northbound traffic, with queues starting to build on the bridge. Traffic Scotland urge motorists in the area to approach with caution.

The bridge, which is part of the M90, separates Edinburgh from North Queensferry and Fife. The route is incredibly busy during peak travel times.

Traffic Scotland alerted motorists to the incident via Twitter.

A statement read: "New, 5pm, M90. There is a three-vehicle collision on the M90 Queensferry Crossing heading Northbound.

"Please approach with care."

At 17:15, they added: "One lane blocked and queueing traffic due to accident on M90 Queensferry Crossing Northbound from J1A A90 (Queensferry) to J1B B980 Ferry Toll Road (Ferrytoll). Lane two (of two) is blocked."

The exact cause of the crash has not been disclosed.

No injuries have been reported at this stage.

One motorist reported that there was a six and a half-mile long queue northbound onto the crossing, with around a half an hour delay as tailbacks start to form.

Motorists have also shared images of vehicles queuing as far back as Kirkliston. Footage shared online shows that the southbound route from Junction 1C Admiralty onto the Queensferry Crossing is particularly busy.

Police Scotland have been approached for comment.
