A fed-up resident has told of the overflowing bins blighting their life on one of Edinburgh's most famous city centre streets.
Sharing a photo of overflowing bins, the local said the problem in Cockburn Street , just off the Royal Mile, has been going on for two years.
An Edinburgh Council spokesperson said a broken down bin truck was to blame for a missed collection at the weekend and the rubbish has now been removed.
The local, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: "For the last two years, Cockburn Street has been plagued by issues of rubbish, ugly eating sheds and their anti-social use at night, and associated problems of pavement parking.
"This has blighted the lives of local people and fills us with sadness. Our street used to be beautiful. Now it's more like a shantytown."
A dedicated Twitter handle has been set up to document issues faced by Cockburn Street residents.
The homeowner said: "These issues came to light during the lockdown and working from home, so seeing what was going on."
Old Town's Cockburn Street links Royal Mile and Waverley station, featuring shops, cafes and cosy dining places. Located in the heart of Edinburgh, the street is a popular tourist destination..
When approached for a comment, Sara McGuire, Media and Social Media Officer at the City of Edinburgh Council, said: "There was an issue with the refuse collection for Cockburn Street at the weekend due to a vehicle breaking down but the refuse has been collected today."
