Edinburgh city centre could get new basement bowling alley on Rose Street

Edinburgh could soon have a new basement bowling alley, with council planners reviewing Roxy Leisure's proposals to transform a city centre unit in the capital.

Edinburgh Council have received an application to install a new shopfront on 26 Rose Street, with the documents confirming Roxy Lanes signage.

Last summer, Roxy Leisure's plans for a first Scottish venue emerged, with reports suggesting the the business hoped to open in the old BHS site on Princes Street, which sits adjacent to the Rose Street address.

Popular south of the border, Roxy's 'booze and ball games' venues feature the likes of ice-free curling, shuffleboard, ping pong, beer pong, American pool tables, ten pin bowling and more.

The entrance to the new venue would be at 26 Rose Street (Google Maps)

And plans now published on the Edinburgh Council website show the capital location would be home to similar attractions, including curling lanes and a bowling alley, all at basement level, with access coming from ground floor level on Rose Street.

The application - for a proposed shop front and signage - has been made on behalf of Roxy Leisure Ltd and confirms the application is for 'an empty basement unit to Rose Street'.

Meanwhile, artist impressions included as part of the submitted documents show the 'Roxy Lanes Booze and Ball Games' signage facing onto Rose Street.

Roxy's potential arrival in the area, comes shortly after the council gave the green light to transform the nearby Fopp record store at 9-15 Rose Street into a new cocktail bar, as we reported last month.
