An Edinburgh cinema is to host an awards ceremony and 60th anniversary screening celebrating the work of Hollywood special effects titan Ray Harryhausen.
On Thursday, June 29, 2023, the capital's Cameo Cinema will play host to the 2023 Ray Harryhausen awards followed by a special 2k screening of the legendary motion picture technician's 1963 classic Jason and the Argonauts.
The date also marks what would have been Ray Harryhausen's 103rd birthday, and promises to be a celebration of his ground-breaking work and ongoing influence on contemporary animators. A Q&A session with the winners of the awards ceremony will follow the film screening.

The Cameo event comes hot on the heels of the Ray Harryhausen Titan of Cinema exhibition. Organised by the Ray & Diana Harryhausen Foundation, the exhibition was held at the National Galleries of Scotland's Modern Two gallery in Edinburgh between 2020 and 2022 and contained exclusive material from the Harryhausen archive.
The Ray & Diana Harryhausen Foundation is a charitable trust set up by Ray in 1986. Since Ray’s death on May 7, 2013, and the acquisition of Ray’s entire Collection by the Foundation, the Trustees have been committed to continuing Ray’s hopes for the future and protecting and conserving Ray’s name and his unique reputation and contribution to world film history.
