Edinburgh café owners say it's the 'end of an era' as they stand down after 12 years

An Edinburgh city centre café has changed hands after operating in the city for over a decade.

SEVEN neighbourhood café, on Home Street, Tollcross, have made the difficult and long decision to give up their popular little business and hand it over to new owners, taking to social media to formally announce their departure.

Located in a busy part of the city centre and being the perfect spot to grab a breakfast roll or light snack, locals were quick to vent their dismay at the imminent closure.

Owners Beata and Peter said in a statement that it would be the "end of an era" for the pair, after trading for 12 years in the capital, with the new owners taking over at the end of last week.

In an Instagram post, they added: "As some of you might already know or at least suspect, after amazing 12 years of our adventure with Seven_neighbourhood café and after long process of making this very hard decision, we have decided that we need to handover our beloved place to somebody who will continue what we have started and have as much fun as we had doing that.

"As of 8th of April the Seven café officially has new owners- a lovely couple that fell in love with our place from the moment they saw it. They are planning to keep the place going exactly as it is, and we have and will provide them with our full support to make the transition as smooth and easy as possible.

"For the weeks to come we are still going to be around and we will do our best to help them to the good start- after all, we have raised this baby from the day of birth."

They added that the decision was not an easy one, but the enthusiasm of the new owners has certainly softened the blow.

As well as serving breakfast and light snacks, Seven also served up veggie classics, as well as salmon pasta, various cakes and a variety of filled sandwiches.

The kindness of the owners was shown even further by donating 50% of the money made on cake sales to the Ukrainian crisis charity in recent weeks.

They rounded off the emotional farewell message by adding: "We wish Hava and Volkan a great success, regular customers as loyal as we had and as much fun as we had running SEVEN.

"Finally, we would like to thank everyone for visiting SEVEN by chance, or making it their regular spot, we are grateful for all the amazing people we’ve met, all the friendships we’ve made over the years, lots of them lasting for many years…., we will miss to see you all from behind the counter at SEVEN!

"For us it’s an end of an era…!"
