Edinburgh Bypass closed amid two-car collision as police scrambled to scene

Emergency crews have rushed to the scene of a two-vehicle morning collision on Edinburgh’s City Bypass.

Traffic has been halted and backed up as far as Gogar following the incident shortly after 8am on the A720 just after Hermiston Gait.

Ambulance and Police crews rapidly responded to lock down the busy motorway alongside teams from the Trunk Road Incident Support Service (TRISS).

Local cameras show a collection of blue lights responding to the collision hours after another incident involving three separate vehicles.

Traffic Scotland has since warned motorists to steer clear of the area and reroute their journeys accordingly with the road now closed for the time being.

Officers are also understood to be responding to a collision westbound at Lothianburn.

A Traffic Scotland statement read: "The Edinburgh City Bypass is to be closed eastbound passing Hermiston Gait, with traffic being diverted off via the Hermiston Gait Roundabout and back on from there."
