Two Edinburgh children rushed to hospital after being hit by car on same road

A 12-year-old boy and 13-year-old girl have been rushed to hospital after being knocked down by a vehicle on the same busy Edinburgh road, just hours apart.

Both incidents occurred on Calder Road on Friday, June 17, with the boy being hit just before 4pm and the girl being knocked down just before 7pm, with locals reportedly witnessing various police and ambulance crews in the area.

Reports also suggest that the road, near Sighthill, was brought to a standstill temporarily while emergency services dealt with the both serious incidents

The condition of the two school children is currently unknown, with Police Scotland confirming they were both rushed to the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers were called to a report of a child being hit by a car on Calder Road, Edinburgh around 3.45pm on Friday 17 June 2022.

"The 12-year-old boy was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children & Young People."

Later, police were called to a report of a 13-year old girl being hit by a car on the same street around 6.50pm.

"She was also taken to the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People.

"Enquiries into both incidents are ongoing."

Several Lothian Bus services, including the 21, 36, 3, 25, 34 and 35 were all temporarily diverted while the incident was ongoing.
