A tourist from the US staying in the city centre has bashed a city centre B&B, after claiming their room was in a ‘horrible’ state.
B&B Edinburgh at 3 Rothesay Terrace received the review on TripAdvisor, after the guest said that while the staff on hand were helpful the room had ‘severe issues’. The visitor suggested that for £200 a night, they had expected better.
They said that the room, which had a window that wouldn’t open and no air conditioning, left them waking up in a sweat. The guest was also told that due to staffing issues, the room would not be made up over their stay.

The review posted on TripAdvisor reads: “All of the staff we met were excellent, kind and helpful.
“Our fourth floor room was horrible. The room was hot and the windows were set not to open more than two inches plus they were dirty.
“Others on our Rick Steves tour had windows that wouldn’t open at all. The small fan in the room just didn’t cut it and we always woke up sweaty.
“We stayed two extra nights and I expected better for £200 a night. In the bathroom there were no shelves or hooks for the towels or toothbrush, razor, etc - not even in the shower for shampoo and soap.
“Only one side of the bed had a reading light and the overhead light was dim. There was no place or table to put the suitcases.
“This was the only hotel on our tour that lacked even that simple amenity. Due to staffing problems, our room wasn’t made one day.
“A piece of paper was left and you would think that there had been an offer for some free drinks or something, but nothing. They need to be honest on their booking tool that many rooms have severe issues like the windows don’t open and there is no AC, buyer beware.”
Edinburgh B&B were quick respond, replying: "I sincerely regret that your experience wasn't as good as expected. As mentioned, there is no AC, but a fan is provided in every room to bear the heat.
"We are happy to help out anytime as long as your comments are passed to our team before your actual departure. In regards to our amenities , there is towel rack where you can put your towels, a luggage rack and a shelve next to the mirror and we could have brought an extra bedside lamp if you found the light to be dim.
"Under health and safety legislation, window restrictors are required where people who are vulnerable to the risk of falling have access to windows. This means all windows above ground level which do not have another fall prevention safety measure in place, such as a balcony or balustrade should have a restrictor.
"I am sorry to hear you were expecting free drinks due to your room not being serviced only one day. We are all experiencing staffing shortages in hospitality industry and it is helpful when our guests show empathy."
Despite the disparaging review, the B&B has an average rating of 4.5 on TripAdvisor - coming in at number 58 out of 413 B&Bs in Edinburgh. Out of 1173 reviews, just 44 have described their visit as terrible or poor - while 729 have said it was excellent.
In a review left last month another American tourist, who was presumably on the same tour, left a five star review - adding: “Stayed here on our last stop of our Rick Steves tour of Scotland.
“What a find. Good location, great staff, rooms are clean and functional. The breakfasts can only be categorised as a morning feast - excellent choices.”
