Edinburgh author Irvine Welsh has shared what could be next for the Trainspotting boys as the best-selling book celebrates 30 years.
The author appeared on the Finding Founders podcast and revealed he is working on a 'romance' novel featuring the iconic characters - Renton, Sick Boy, Spud, and Begbie, reports the Scottish Sun.
He admitted he had lots of stories of what the gang gets up to between Trainspotting and the follow-up Porno. The Edinburgh-born author said the new instalment will show how they negotiate relationships in their late twenties and set between the two former novels.

Irvine said: “I’ve got all these stories in between Trainspotting and Porno about the guys and what they’re up to. I’ve realised it’s all about them trying to negotiate love.
"Falling in love in their twenties and working out what they do about it and what their views on this are."
Welsh added on the Finding Founders podcast: “It’s a bizarre romance book about all these characters. In a way, they are more emotionally exposed.”
Trainspotting hit the shelves in 1993 and was turned into the award-winning film by director Danny Boyle with Ewan McGregor starring as Renton in 1996.
The second film T2 was released in 2017, based on the book Porno. The author also wrote about the characters’ lives in the 2012 novel Skagboys and 2018's Dead Men’s Trousers.
