Stunned locals watched on as armed police swooped on their residential street in Kirkliston.
Multiple police vehicles were spotted in the area with armed officers roaming Wellflats Road just minutes away from the Royal Highland Centre.
It later emerged police had received a tip off that armed men were seen in the area prior to the major deployment.
An anonymous resident told Edinburgh Live that they received no information as to what was going on, and that the emergency services were in attendance for a number of hours on Wednesday, May 24.

Uniformed officers, alongside police dogs, scoured the area as a police helicopter was seen circling above.
At least four police cars were seen on Wellflats Road while a dog unit was spotted patrolling a nearby footpath behind homes. Police later confirmed there were reports of armed men in the area.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 8.45pm on Wednesday, 24 May, 2023 we were called to a report of males believed to be in possession of weapons in the Wellflats Road area of Kirkliston.
"Officers, including armed response, attended however there was nothing ongoing at the time. A thorough search of the area was carried out but no one traced.
"There were no further reports made to police and no reports of injuries."
