Edinburgh Airport security time: How early should you arrive during summer holidays

Edinburgh Airport has been issuing updates regarding its security wait time to help holidaymakers prepare for their journey.

As well as issuing a live time checker on its website, Edinburgh Airport issues regular updates throughout the day to give wait times in real-time. This helps customers plan their travel and know what to expect when they get to the airport.

Over the last few months, airports across the UK have seen a surge of holidaymakers as we are in the midst of the peak summer season. Jet setters have been reminded to be prepared for possible queues.

With that, Edinburgh Airport has been offering advice and has told travellers not to arrive too late — but also not too early. Airlines also give a time frame on when to arrive as check-in desks close depending on the company.

For those jetting off from Edinburgh Airport, the airport recommends that travellers arrive at least two hours before their flight to ensure they have time to check-in and get through security.

Meanwhile, Virgin Atlantic and Turkish Airlines are among the airlines who open their desks four hours before flight times, while easyJet and Ryanair open at least two hours before departure. So this is worth keeping in mind if you have bags to check in.

As of Monday, 1.10pm, Edinburgh Airport tweeted: "As of a few minutes ago the time to get through security from first joining the queue was one to 20 minutes. Security is flowing well, but please remember to prepare in advance."

They issue updates across their social media channels, so passengers are urged to keep an eye on them. FastTrack is also an option to beat the long queues.

Within their recent update, the airport is urging people to remember to prepare for security and revise the rules. Laptops and phones must be taken out of bags and pockets. Shoes with a heel and belts must also be taken off and placed in the tray. Liquids must be 100ml max and be kept in a small plastic bag.

You can see all of the rules and guidance for security on Edinburgh Airport's website here.
