Edinburgh Airport passengers in long queue as 'no airline staff to check them in'

An Edinburgh WestJet passenger has hit out at the airline after they told of queuing for over an hour to check their bags in.

At one point, the flyer said there were no staff members to assist them as one worker wandered off to take a phone call. Arriving at Edinburgh Airport on Friday morning for the 10:25am flight to Toronto, Lexie Angelo took to Twitter to vent her frustration at the lack of WestJet staff monitoring the check-in desk.

She said: "This is the baggage queue at Edinburgh Airport for @WestJet - only three agents to check bags. Self-serve kiosks are needed asap!! The wait is unnecessary."

After waiting over 40 minutes to be checked in, another tweet from Lexie said that the three agents at the desk had been reduced to just one, and then zero. She continued: "It has been forty minutes and we’re now down to one agent. To check bags! This would never happen in Canada. Everyone is so confused.

"Correction there are now zero agents checking bags. The last one walked away on the phone."

Speaking to Edinburgh Live about the encounter, she added: "I arrived three hours early and there was a long queue at the WestJet counters to check bags. It was moving slowly, but after 40 minutes, one agent left, and I overheard her ask a colleague if this was the really the queue for passengers and then she proceeded to walk away and another was on the phone.

"Shortly after, the other two agents left. It was especially shocking because in Canada bag check-in is very quick because we use self-serve kiosks which print the tags. I felt terrible for the elderly passengers who waited for so long."

The flight, which was due to depart around 10:25am was eventually airborne half an hour later shortly before 11am. Lexie also captured images of the initial queue at the WestJet desks and several other passengers looking bemused as they were the only ones suffering delays..

WestJet has been approached for comment.
