Édgar Ramírez brings the protests over Venezuela's electoral fallout to the 'Borderlands' premiere

Venezuelan actor Édgar Ramírez took his protesting over the country's electoral fraud to Hollywood during the premiere of his new movie, "Borderlands." During his walk on the yellow carpet, Ramírez proudly displayed and kissed the Venezuelan flag, an act that resonated deeply with many of his fans and followers. Then he took it a step beyond.

This is not the first time the former telenovela actor has been a vocal critic of the Chavistas. His public persona has included a sizable component of his opposition to the Nicolás Maduro-led government for many years. Ramírez has expressed his deep sorrow and frustration with the ongoing situation in Venezuela in recent interviews, highlighting how the regime's policies have led to widespread suffering and a massive humanitarian crisis.

He also speaks often about the emotional toll of being unable to return to his home country due to his outspoken views. Ramírez describes the experience of exile as a form of "emotional zombification," underscoring the pain of being forced to leave his homeland not by choice but by necessity, a feeling that his countrymen and women have also described and identified with.

Ramírez took part of a video before the July 28th presidential elections in Venezuela, promoting the vote. He also made a very public declaration on where he stands, as the Maduro regime has increased its violent and fatal repression and imprisonment of protesters and opposition leaders.

The Latino actor posted his photo kissing the Venezuelan flag at the premiere of "Borderlands" with the caption "Hasta el final (Until the very end)," which is the phrase used by opposition leader María Corina Machado and the president elect Edmundo González Urrutia to show their commitment to end the chavista chokehold on the Venezuelan government.

Édgar Ramírez and "Borderlands"

"Borderlands," directed by Eli Roth, is an adaptation of the popular video game and features a star-studded cast including Latina actress Ariana Greenblatt (Barbie), Cate Blanchett, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Kevin Hart. The film follows Lilith (Blanchett), a treasure hunter with a mysterious past, who teams up with Atlas (Ramírez) and other characters to navigate the chaotic world of Pandora.

Atlas is a private business dictator. While the character doesn't exist in the game, it represents the corporations that appear in the game version of "Borderlands." His business, The Atlas Company, dominates the planet of Pandora, and Atlas himself operates from the dark. "Borderlands" opens this Friday.

Upcoming Projects

Beyond his involvement in Venezuela's protests from abroad, Édgar Ramírez continues to thrive in his acting career, with several exciting projects lined up for this year. Following his role in "Borderlands," where he plays the villainous Atlas, Ramírez is set to appear in the highly anticipated drama "Emilia Pérez," staring Selena Gómez, Zoe Saldaña and Karla Sofía Gastón.

This film explores themes of identity and self-discovery, with Ramírez taking on a challenging and complex role that showcases his versatility as an actor. The film has already generated buzz for its innovative storytelling and strong performances
