EDF has issued an apology after the website experienced issues when customers attempted to submit energy meter readings.
The price of bills soared this month after Ofgem lifted the price cap by 54%. The average energy bill increased by £693 due to the surging price of wholesale gas on April 1.
Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis branded the increase as "sickening" and said he is virtually out of tools with how to help people throughout the crisis. One piece of advice the consumer champion urged households to follow is to submit a energy meter reading on March 31.

Speaking on his ITV Martin Lewis Money Show Live broadcast last week, the MoneySavingExpert founder said: "That way you draw a line in the sand that says to your energy firm, I've only used this amount at the cheaper rate. Don't start charging me more on the higher rate and estimating I use some of it afterwards."
Households in Britain across the UK followed the advice - and websites of many major energy suppliers crash as servers struggled to cope with the volume of submissions. EDF Energy's website also reported problems, apparently as many people tried to submit their meter readings on their account.
The main page of EDF Energy was working, but when customers clicked through to the MyAccount page they were unable to log in. However, the supplier has now issued an apology to customers and said it will process readings as if it's for March 31.
A statement said: "We've never had so many customers trying to give readings at the same time. If you struggled to get in touch, we're sorry and we want to make things right.
"That's why we're going to process your reading as if it's for 31st March. If that's wrong, we're the ones who'll lose out. Your new, higher prices came into effect on April 1st so we'll be charging you less than we should for that short period of time. There's nothing more you need to do – thanks for remaining a loyal customer."
