EDEN review: The raw energy and emotion alone is worth the trip

EDEN - (Sam Rudkin-Millichamp)

After three years away, half-Irish half-Chinese singer/songwriter/producer/DJ EDEN delivered a captivating solo performance of his fourth studio album DARK to the sold out o2 Forum Kentish Town. EDEN - aka Jonathon Ng - entered a stage drenched in ambiance, backlit and adorned with smoke. He didn’t need any extravagant setup or band to fill the space, the lack of visual stimulus forcing listeners to let the music take them through the often electric, often somber soundscape of DARK; a deeply emotive performance not held back by distraction.

Earlier he had supported himself, under the alias of DJ Krewes, which set the energy and intention of the night. The subsequent twenty-four song setlist journeyed through DARK while dotting throwbacks to previous projects throughout.
