Louis Saha has urged Eddie Howe to find “the perfect formula” for Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson. The duo are yet to start a game together for Newcastle United in recent weeks, with the Magpies keeping their trusted 4-3-3 formation.
Wilson was given a chance to continue his impressive pre-World Cup form once the season resumed in December. However, just one goal amplified noises for Isak - returning from a lengthy thigh injury - to get his chance.
On his first top-flight start since the lay-off, the Swede scored a well-taken header to put Newcastle in front against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Following that up with a brace at Nottingham Forest justified Howe’s decision to drop his trusted lieutenant Wilson.

While the two are yet to start together, they did link up superbly in the 1-0 win over Fulham earlier this year. Wilson set up Isak in the dying embers as United snatched all three points.
Former Toon and Sunderland striker Saha believes Howe must find a way to get the pair firing together. He told Paddy Power: “When players like Alexander Isak are full of confidence and they click with the players around them, it works nicely. Isak is a young player, but you can see that he’s going to be great.
“He’s got speed, skills, his height so he can jump and get on the end of crosses. Comparing him to Callum Wilson is hard because they are different types of strikers, but that is a good thing for Newcastle and it’s how the manager works out the perfect formula for the both of them to work together.
“These are the types of situations that a big club like Newcastle need to sort out. To get the best out of both of them as, currently, that isn’t happening.”
