Eddie Howe has insisted Newcastle United will not have a 'bottomless pit' of money to use this summer, regardless of whether they finish in the top four.
Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Aston Villa yesterday afternoon has left the Toon Army well placed to claim a Champions League spot, requiring only a single point from their remaining two fixtures.
Competing in Europe's elite competition next campaign would likely result in Newcastle being able to attract any additional pool of players to the club, having already recruited the likes of Bruno Guimaraes from Lyon and Sven Botman from Lille without this on offer.

Liverpool will be watching on closely at transfer business as they attempt to close the gap on the Magpies next term, though Howe has made clear his club will not be reckless when operating during the summer window.
"Regardless of what happens, we’re not going to have a bottomless pit," explained the ex-Bournemouth boss. "We will be under tight constraints. Whatever we do in the transfer market, we’re going to have to be very smart. In the three transfer windows I’ve had, we’ve been excellent, and we have to continue that."
Newcastle host Leicester City tomorrow evening before taking on Chelsea next Sunday on the final day of the Premier League season. Emphasising there will be little time for relaxing after next weekend's season finale, Howe stressed work on recruitment will begin right away. "Unfortunately, yes, which means you're on a sort of a conveyor belt that you can't get off," he said of the quick turnaround. "Everyone will say, 'That's a great achievement' - but all I can think of is that next challenge coming and being prepared for it.
"You can't sit back and say, 'Right, I'm going to take a month off and go and relax on a beach'. It's the opposite - it’s, 'OK, how can we best now succeed in that next phase?' You’re always on a cycle of trying to improve."
