Eddie Howe makes Newcastle owners admission as Premier League clubs demand talks over structure

Premier League clubs will write to the league to voice their frustrations after a US court document described Newcastle chairman Yasir al-Rumayyan as "a sitting minister of the Saudi government"

As per, The Guardian, English top-flight clubs have been left concerned by the revelation, keen to discuss the matter during the next shareholders’ meeting, which is due to take place at the end of the month. The document brings up further queries as to the true gulf in separation between the Saudi state and the Public Investment Fund (PIF).

PIF, which is governed by Rumayyan, bought an 80% stake in the Magpies back in October 2021 after Mike Ashley finally decided to sell following a turbulent 14 years in Tyneside. When the deal to buy Newcastle had gone through, the 19 other Premier League clubs requested an emergency meeting in an attempt to understand the reasons that it had been approved.

The league then claimed that they have received "legally-binding assurances" that PIF was a separate entity from the state, with the deal originally delayed by 18 months due to the separation issue. Despite these concerns, Magpies manager Eddie Howe admitted that he has not sought assurances from the majority owners regarding their relationship with the Saudi government.

"I have not sought any assurances to be honest, I’ve not given it too much time. I’m aware of the headlines, I’ve seen the headlines, but I haven’t really invested in the details behind it," Howe said on Friday.

"I’ve got Manchester City to prepare for and that genuinely has taken all my attention."

When quizzed if he had discussed the ownership situation with his first-team players, Howe responded: "Well, I would do. If a player ever came to me, I’d have that conversation.

"But no, I don’t find it difficult. For me, my job is training the players, trying to get them in the best physical, mental, tactical condition to win the game."
