Eddie Howe issues injury update as Newcastle rocked by 'concerns' 15 days before Wembley final

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has reflected on three of his injury concerns after the 1-1 draw at Bournemouth.

With just 15 days to go before the League Cup final - and another Premier League game against Liverpool - Howe was counting the cost of the brutal battle in Boscombe today. Allan Saint-Maximin, Joe Willock and Miguel Almiron all went off and Callum Wilson did not travel due to a hamstring problem.

Willock was injured in the first half, patched up and sent back out but ended up coming off before the break. Saint-Maximin and Almiron limped off before the end.

Speaking after the game Howe updated fans and said: "I think Miggy and Max, I don’t think are too bad. Miggy, I think, got stamped on his hand, so we think he’ll be OK.

"Maxi was just a knock. The concern from today is Joe Willock who has gone off with a hamstring problem."

Before the game Howe had confirmed that Wilson was withdrawn with a slight hamstring complaint. Reflecting on the game itself, he said: "It was a tough game. Very competitive between two good teams. Bournemouth have a lot of energy and athleticism, and I thought we dealt with them pretty well apart from the goal, and a couple of other scary moments for us.

"Bit disappointed in the final third, not as many clearcut chances as we would like, and a lot of half moments where we could have done better, but I think it was a fair result."
