Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe is waiting for an update on Jonjo Shelvey after he hobbled off in the 3-2 defeat away to Benfica.
Shelvey went off just 20 minutes into his substitute role in Lisbon and will hope the strain isn't too serious.
When asked about Shelvey's problem, Howe said: “Jonjo, it looks like a hamstring problem. I don’t know any more than that at the moment.
"It's really disappointing, he’s worked so hard to keep himself fit and be in a good place physically. Any injury would be a blow to him and for us, so fingers crossed it’s not bad."
Howe also left out Martin Dubravka against Benfica while Ryan Fraser missed the game with a family issue.
He said: "Martin’s got a sprained wrist from fielding a ball at close range. We don’t think it’s too serious.
"The others, I think you know about. Fede Fernandez and Jamal Lewis, they’re working their way back to fitness. Fraser was missing with a family issue."
Newcastle must also wait for news on Javier Manquillo who has been getting treatment in Madrid.
Howe said: "We still haven’t seen Manquillo. We’re due to see him when we return to England."
