Eddie Howe has ordered a “no fear” attitude at Old Trafford - because he believes Newcastle can be as big as Manchester United.
The United boss faces a huge test of his side’s top six credentials this week with Sunday’s trip to Manchester followed by Spurs next weekend and a midweek home clash with Everton. Howe is in the foothills of rebuilding the Tyneside club on the pitch, with the club owners looking for a 5-10 year climb to the top.
Few clubs have the global reach of Manchester United, or past successes, but Howe says the Geordies are on a path to growing as big. Asked if Newcastle can ever be as big as Erik Ten Hag’s club, he said: “Why not? The aim of this club - the ambition behind the scenes - is huge. Now I have always said we have to try and deliver those huge ambitions. But there is no ceiling here.
