Eddie Hearn backtracks on proposed Derek Chisora vs Deontay Wilder fight

Eddie Hearn has now downplayed any chance of Derek Chisora fighting Deontay Wilder by instead revealing talks are underway for the Brit to face Luis Ortiz.

Chisora suffered a brutal points defeat to Joseph Parker at the end of last year where he was forced to overcome multiple knockdowns to survive until the final bell.

The heavyweight then dismissed any links with looming retirement and even expressed his willingness to face Wilder after Hearn paired the two together in a potential bout.

Hearn has now admitted it could have been a "dangerous" fight and confirmed it was just a "throwaway" comment.

He told talkSPORT : "It was only a throwaway comment from me saying if the fight went four or five rounds, I think he’d beat Wilder.

“It’s obviously a very dangerous fight [against Wilder]. There’s been a few talks about Chisora against Luis Ortiz, with those guys. and I like that fight.

“Chisora against [Chris] Arreola. Chisora against Zhang Zhilei. He’s never in a bad fight and he wants to fight. He wants the biggest fights out there and we’re trying to find him one.”

Chisora's loss to Parker was the 11th of his career and leaves him with little hope of securing a world title shot in the future at the age of 39.

He continues to draw in huge crowds and entertain fans however which is understood to be a key factor in the continuation of his boxing career.

Despite a potential fight with Wilder effectively being ruled out, Chisora is still confident he could defeat the 'Bronze Bomber' and remains ready to step up to any big challenge.

“I think we’ve both come out of two losses, back-to-back,” Chisora added. “I think why not?

"People are saying ‘why does he want to do that for?’ They’re not me. People are not built like me.

“The thing is, I will be honest with you, I want to fight everybody. When I hang it up I can say I fought everybody in my era and enjoyed it. I loved it, that’s what I want to do.

“I don’t want to duck and dive and suddenly at the end of my career saying ‘I wish I’d fought this guy’. No, I want to fight everybody right now. I don’t know, but yes I want to go for it 100 per cent. Yes, I will beat him.”
