Ed Sheeran gig tickets for NHS workers cancelled hours before show

People who thought they were going to see Ed Sheeran play had their hopes dashed when their tickets were cancelled just hours before the show. NHS and emergency services workers who booked using their Blue Light discount card were among those affected.

The Blue Light Card offer was also available to those in the social care sector and armed forces, with the tickets allowing admission to Sheeran's sold-out concerts at Hampden Park in Glasgow. The singer-songwriter was playing two dates at the stadium, one on Thursday (June 16) and the other on Friday (June 17).

Community psychiatric nurse Cat Allan, 42, had booked two tickets and called the situation "ridiculous", The Daily Record reports. "I am annoyed and there are a lot of disappointed people," she said.

"I booked two tickets using the blue light card but there were around 17 of us going in total. Everyone is either a NHS or frontline worker and we have all worked through Covid.

"It is terrible. They make it sound like they're going to give back to frontline staff and then they do this and cancel without even 24 hours notice.

"My daughter who was coming with me is only 15 so she understands but my friend's daughter is younger and absolutely devastated. It is okay disappointing us but to disappoint the kids who were so excited is not fair."

Police Scotland employee Mr Duffy, 28, has also been impacted by the cancellation. He said: "My wife is a nurse for the NHS and she said someone in her work had their tickets cancelled.

"I went on and checked on the Ticketmaster app and the tickets had been cancelled. I didn't receive an email - there was no correspondence at all.

"People have booked travel hotels and they will now be out of pocket. It is really poor the way they have done it."

Concert promoter AEG blamed an oversubscription of the complimentary tickets and told fans they will see Ed Sheeran next time he plays in Scotland. An AEG spokesperson said: "Unforeseen logistical circumstances have unfortunately resulted in an oversubscription to a complimentary allocation of tickets for tonight’s show.

"This has meant some recipients have unfortunately had their tickets cancelled. We will ensure that those affected will be invited next time Ed plays in Scotland.

"Our customer relations team is currently dealing with all customers who’ve been affected. We apologise for the inconvenience caused."
