Ed Sheeran's Glasgow Hampden gig sees star don Scotland top as fans label show 'loudest ever'

Ed Sheeran wowed fans at Hampden last night, and even surprised the crowd by wearing a Scotland top.

The Shape Of You singer is in the middle of two back-to-back shows at the stadium, as thousands of fans turned up in force to see him perform.

The concert was heard bellowing out from the venue across the city, as people took to social media to report hearing Ed perform in the north and east of the area, and as far away as Lenzie.

However, despite the excess noise and local traffic chaos that ensued, it was the 31-year-olds sweet touch with the Scotland top that put the cherry on top of a good night.

People could hear the concert for miles (Instagram)

One fan wrote on Twitter: "Ed Sheeran performing in Hampden last night wearing a Scotland shirt was the highlight of my night"

Another penned: "Ed Sheeran put a Scotland top on the night and shot out some Green and White Pyros."

Many Glaswegians were taken aback at the noise levels coming from the venue, and took to social media to vent.

One wrote: "was by far the loudest gig at Hampden, I live near the stadium and usually only hear muffled noise, last night I could have sang along (if I knew any Ed Sheeran songs)."

Another penned: "Could hear a heavy baseline last night (10:30pm) I put on a sleep story and forgot about it. This morning our local fb group were discussing it, apparently it was Ed Sheeran at Hampden?! We live the other side of the city, is that possible?"

A third said: "I live nearly a mile from Hampden but the music sounded as it was being played loudly in my neighbour's living room. I hope those who were there weren't deafened. #EdSheeran #HampdenPark "

A fourth quipped: " @edsheeran could you maybe turn down the speakers at Hampden. I'm 10 miles away and can hear your concert. We ain't all fans... and it's bed time!"

A fifth said: "Listening in the back garden to #EdSheeran playing at Hampden tonight ………. we’re in Lenzie !!!"

Meanwhile gig goers faced heavy traffic as they attempted to go home after the concert, with huge queues building across Glasgow southside streets and some complaining of a two-hour wait to get out of an Asda carpark in nearby Toryglen.

Ahead of the show, they had been warned to plan ahead after ScotRail confirmed there would be no trains running between Glasgow city centre and Hampden's closest station at Mount Florida in Glasgow's southside.

An ongoing strike over driver pay disputes has meant services are running on temporary timetables across the country.
