eBay UK is giving the public the chance to buy a refurbished smartphone for under £1.
On Friday, 150 phones will be up for grabs, including recently released iPhone 14 models and previous-generation Samsung and Google Pixels handsets.
A standard iPhone 14 usually costs just shy of £700 when bought new, highlighting the huge discounts to be had.
The sale will start at 10am on Friday, September 22, and will remain open until all 150 refurbished phones are sold out. However, once they’re gone, they’re gone. You can find the sale via this link.
The 99p sale aims to highlight how much you can save by buying refurbished over new (although it’s worth noting that savings aren’t usually that high).
Nonetheless, you can usually save up to 50 per cent off with refurbished tech at any time by shopping via eBay’s Refurbished Hub, a dedicated marketplace for refurbished tech.
All phones included in the deal have been restored to 100 per cent functionality by idoodirect, vetted and approved by both eBay and manufacturers for quality assurance. The handsets also come with a one-year warranty for extra peace of mind.
The limited-time sale also aims to highlight the amount of quality refurbished phones on the market amid a growing e-waste problem, with an estimated 5.3 billion mobile phones being thrown away last year.
“With so much hype around new phone launches at the moment, we really want to show people that you can still get that ‘new phone upgrade feeling’ without breaking the bank by shopping refurbished,” says Mark Monte-Colombo, head of refurbished technology at eBay UK.
“Not only do you save your hard-earned cash, but you can also help to extend the life of a phone which could otherwise end up in landfill — and you might even have a spare charger in the drawer — not something you can bank on with recently announced changes to certain handsets!”
Even if you miss out on one of the 99p phones, eBay will also have a 20 per cent discount across selected Android and Apple phones, running from 10am on September 22 until midnight on September 28.
