Travellers have been dealt another blow with easyJet cancelling all flights from the UK to a holiday hotspot in Egypt.
The budget airline has already cancelled hundreds of flights in recent months due to staffing issues, IT failures and other problems.
In their latest update, the airline confirmed it is scrapping all flights to Hurghada, Egypt in June and July.
Holidaymakers who planned on flying from Glasgow Airport will be affected - the original journey involves a change at Bristol on the way there and London on the return, reports GlasgowLive.
An easyJet spokesperson said: "There are industry wide operational issues that are impacting airlines at the moment, which means we have made a number of pre-emptive cancellations which includes not operating to Hurghada from the UK for the remainder of June and July."
"We are very sorry for the inconvenience this will cause. We are informing customers in advance to minimise the impact on their plans and provide the option to rebook before travelling or receive a refund, and our customer service hours have been extended to support affected customers."
They concluded: "We continue to monitor the operation closely and take action in advance as needed."
The airline's decision follows weeks of aviation disruption due to staff shortages.
easyJet chief operating officer Sophie Deckers told the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee that it is taking four weeks longer than normal for new cabin crew recruits to receive their security passes.
She said: "It's taking around 14 weeks now to get crew ID passes. It was around 10 weeks pre-pandemic in a normal year."
Ms Deckers said the delay is being caused by the requirement for individuals to obtain references for all the jobs they have done in the past five years.
"In many cases, people have had 10 jobs in the last couple of years. Maybe some of them were only for a couple of weeks, but we're required to get a reference from each of those, so that’s what’s taking the length of time.
"We have today 142 crew ready and trained to go online, that don't have their ID passes. So we have planned for this (increase in demand for travel) and we've planned for the ramp up, the ID processing I think has caught us by surprise and it's taken longer than we had ever planned or anticipated."
What to do if your flight is cancelled
If your flight is cancelled, you are entitled for a full refund or a replacement flight to get you to your destination.
Citizen Advice also adds: "If you're part-way through a journey and you don’t want a replacement flight, you also have a right to a flight back to the airport you originally departed from.
"Ask for a refund or replacement at the airport if you can. If not, you can claim from the airline later.
"You also have a legal right to:
- Help with costs - If the cancellation delays you two or more hours.
- Compensation - If you’d be delayed two or more hours by the replacement flight offered and you were given less than two weeks' notice."
