Instagram users have revealed how they transformed a basic set of IKEA drawers into bespoke pieces of statement furniture. In recent years there has been a surge in demand for DIY products and home improvement inspiration, as people spend more time in their homes and gardens.
Many people have been trying out 'upcycling' to achieve a better look on a budget, and IKEA's Malm range of drawers are a blank canvas.
They range in price depending on size but among the most popular are the large three-drawer unit for £99 or the four-drawer model for £120.

Seasoned 'upcyclers' have been sharing their hacks on social media to show how they have completely transformed theirs into something unique.
London blogger @linsdrabwell revealed how she used painted hers green and white using tape to mark a geometric pattern, peeling it off when dry before adding handles.
Another DIY fan @notionsinmeath used wood glue to stick wooden dowels to hers in a rectangular pattern, before sanding it down, adding coats of varnish and sticking a sheet of wooden veneer on the top surface.
Adding drawer handles is an easy way of upgrading the plain appearance of the drawers, as shown by @jazzinstavsreality who stained the wooden finishes by hand.
Instagram user @appleby_cottage went a step further by painting them black beforehand and gluing on handles ordered on Amazon for a vintage touch.
Securing 'feet' to stand the drawers on or adding panels of fabric or rattan were among some of the other creative tips shared on the social media site.
