Eastern Kentucky University is moving through an extensive list of capital projects. At the last Board of Regents meeting, university officials gave an update on that progress. 200 projects have been completed since July first and 143 more are in the works.
In an interview with WEKU, EKU President David McFaddin said the projects are focused on campus revitalization.
“In the next coming years, we've got about $55 million in state appropriated funds, we've got to match those funds from institutional support. So, a lot of work to go on. But, you know, I'll be honest, a lot of those things people may not see, steam lines, and electrical systems and plumbing,” said McFaddin.
McFaddin said those types of improvements to campus facilities create a better experience for students.
The university leader said workforce shortages and supply chain issues mean the university has to be flexible about which projects are completed first.
“We're going to have to kind of do the things that that can happen at the time that we need them. And so, you know, when you're looking at steam lines, you know, we're going to be out to looking for, you know, those large steam line projects, and those are going to take some time to get the equipment in, and then of course, to prep and get the work done,” said McFaddin.
The university leader said the full list of expected projects will take several years to complete.
