Easter weekend weather: Met Office long-range forecast predicts 20C bank holiday

The UK is likely to have a slightly warmer weekend in time for the Easter bank holiday, the Met Office has revealed.

The temperature will be closer to the average for the start of April by the time Easter comes around, which is warmer than the UK is currently experiencing.

Anywhere in direct sunlight was also forecast to be quite warm, with some areas reaching 20C.

But, strong breezes were expected in some regions, with patchy rain in northern parts.

The Met Office said: "The latter part of the period looks likely to become more settled, albeit with some wetter interludes, these most likely in the south and west of the country.

"Stronger winds at times, but temperatures remaining close to average, feeling pleasant in any sunshine.

"There is potential for overnight frost where skies are clear in the north and east."

The UK could still reach the heights of 20C in time for the Easter weekend, however, according to British Weather Services' senior meteorological consultant, Jim Dale.

He told the Mirror: "The longer term looks good for Easter. We ain't looking at a heatwave, but we are looking a damn sight better [than current weather].

"But I reckon by this time next week, we'll be starting to emerge out of the mixed, grey, showery weather that's given us well above average rainfall.

"So we're starting to see models suggesting 16C/17C/18C... and if you see models suggesting that, then the 20C is still on.

"It makes us all feel better when we get a bit of sunshine - especially when it's a warm bit of sunshine."

Most of the country will be bathing in 15C-17C temperatures throughout Easter Sunday, according to Ventusky weather maps.

Eastern parts around Lincoln and Hull could reach 20C later into the day, however.

The South-West will be slightly cooler, varying between 12C and 14C, whereas the north of England and Scotland were forecast 16C to 18C.

Good Friday was forecast to start with rain in most parts of England, including in the Midlands and the South.

But, the rain will largely be kept at bay for the remainder of the weekend, albeit with short showers on Saturday.

Frosty starts to the days will give way to fog in the early hours of the day across the bank holiday weekend.

The South-East of England and the Midlands were most likely to have longer periods of fog, although that's expected to clear up for warmer skies as the days progress.

Meanwhile, the Mirror has previously revealed the UK could bathe in balmy 20C temperatures for Easter weekend.

A northerly breeze is expected to kick off the weekend, but should hand over to warmer weather by Easter Sunday and Monday.
