EastEnders villain Gray Atkins finally caught as Mitch and Whitney take him down

EastEnders fans rejoiced on Thursday night, as the soap aired justice for Chantelle Atkins, Tina Carter and Kush Kazemi who were murdered at the hands of evil Gray Atkins.

Gray finally faced his comeuppance during a tense episode on Thursday night, which saw the BBC soap back at its best.

Viewers were on the edge of their seats, as they watched Gray be confronted by a number of residents, with twists and turns at every corner.

His attempt to escape Walford left lives on the line, before a dramatic conclusion saw Whitney Dean and Mitch Baker finally bring an end to Gray's reign of terror.

At the start of the episode, Gray tried to kill wife Chelsea Fox after finding out she had called the police on him, and recorded him confessing to ex-wife Chantelle's murder.

As the villain visited Karen, Chantelle's mother, to collect his kids and flee for good, she realised the truth about her daughter's death and stopped him taking the children.

When he went for her too she managed to alert the police that he was there, leading to Gray once again running away - with him ending up at The Queen Vic.

This time it was Tina's sister Shirley ready to kill him in revenge, with her attacking him repeatedly and plotting his murder.

After she was stopped by her son Mick, disaster struck when Gray turned on her and injured her - leaving her fighting for her life.

But it was Whitney who decided to end things, and as she saw Gray walking out of Walford she alerted the police and set chase.

The pair ended up on the railway bridge above the market, with her telling him he had nowhere to go and it was over.

She then suggested his only way out would be to jump off the bridge, but told him he needed to face justice - only for Gray to suddenly jump in an attempt to take his life and escape a life behind bars.

As Whitney broke down he told her all the details and said she should let him die in revenge, but a determined Whitney clung on to the railings and refused to drop him.

Just as it looked as though Gray would fall, Mitch appeared and grabbed onto him and helped Whitney pull him back over onto the bridge.

Gray was stunned given Mitch now knew he'd killed his daughter Chantelle, but Mitch clearly wanted justice for his family like Whitney did.

The police then came to escort Gray to the station, with him handcuffed and placed in a car as Walford residents watched on in shock.

As the episode ended justice was finally served, or at least it looked as if it was going to be, as Gray was driven out of Walford for good.

Some viewers had predicted Gray would be killed off and maybe the soap would air a whodunnit, while others agreed Gray going to prison would be the only fitting ending to the long-running storyline.
