EastEnders star Kellie Bright says cast 'completely in the dark' about flash-forward murder plot

EastEnders star Kellie Bright and five other cast members of the BBC soap know as much as viewers when it comes to the groundbreaking 'flash-forward' plot. The Linda Carter star appeared on This Morning on Tuesday, February 21 to talk about the murder mystery that won't be solved until Christmas this year, meaning months of speculation and theories to come about the identity of the dead body previewed on Monday's episode and the person responsible.

During the final moments of the episode, Linda Carter (Kellie Bright), Denise Fox (Diane Parish), Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth), Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner), Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) and Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal) all made a toast to the men that have wronged them. The scene then cut to black and faded into a flash-forward scene that takes place at Christmas this year.

Kellie appeared on the ITV morning show and revealed to Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield that neither she, nor any of her castmates, know the identity of the dead body or who the murderer is - and that two endings were filmed for the Monday, February 20 episode, with one including a male victim and one featuring a female victim.

The star, who was a major part of Christmas 2022's big storyline which saw Danny Dyer's Mick Carter die - or did he? - said: "I'm really excited. Watching it last night I was really excited as well. When we filmed that flash-forward we didn't know much at all. And what you can't really see is that I had a split lip. And I don't know why.

"We had a body double if you like and actually when they filmed it they did it two ways so that we had a 'he said and a she said'."

"No way!" exclaimed Holly, who was well into Kellie's revelations.

Kellie says she watched the episode and the ending surprised even her (ITV)

"Watching it last night was the first time I saw it," continued Kellie. "You can imagine we've all gone right around the houses over who it could be, I think there's going to be lots of red herrings. I have to say I feel very honoured to be part of it, I don't actually get a lot of screentime with a lot of them.

"Tish (Letitia Dean), we play best friends so we get a lot of screen time, but the rest of them I hardly see them. I think we're going to have individual stories that will intertwine and will come together."

During the future scene, which seems to take place at Sharon’s wedding, the six women stood around a dead, unidentified male. The camera pans across the room to first reveal a worried Linda with a shocked look on her face. Then, it moved to Suki and Kathy, who looked at the body, whilst Stacey had blood on her hands. Sharon's wedding dress was also bloodied and Denise held a broken wine bottle. Nothing gives away who the man might be, only that he is wearing a suit and jewelled cufflinks.

After Sharon remarked that the man was "dead", the theme tune began and fans will now have to wait 10 months until the storyline is resolved. There was a huge reaction to the flash-forward scene on social media.

Kellie continued to reveal brilliant bits about the unraveling of the storyline, and what will happen to the Queen Vic as Janine Butcher sells her half of the pub. Phil remarked that the group of actresses were now 'the six' and Kellie revealed that they all have a what's app group and said there'd been lots of speculation already.

"There's been lots of speculation and we realised...one of us has done it," added Kellie. "Now I'm wondering, I hadn't even thought about that. I would be surprised if it was me. Us as characters we have no idea what's coming."
