EastEnders viewers were left in tears when Lola Pearce peacefully died with her husband Jay Brown and her daughter Lexi by her side but actor Jamie Borthwick has now revealed his wish for his future on the BBC soap.
Lola, played by Danielle Harold, passed away after bravely battling a brain tumour for months with Jay supporting his wife every step of the way.
In her final episode, Jay delivered a heartbreaking speech about how his wife could be reincarnated as a fox because she's "willy, sassy, scrappy and sexy".
After Jay discovered Lola had died, EastEnders viewers watched as a fox made its way through a deserted Albert Square in a touching tribute to the beloved character.
Speaking at the British Soap Awards earlier this month, Jay star Jamie revealed he had plans for his own exit in the future now he's lost his on-screen wife.
“Well, I can’t do any better than hers (Danielle Harold), can I? So fine, kill me off. In the monologue which I say to her [before she dies], I say I’ll be a rat and you can be a fox, and then there’s going to be a clip," he told Daily Star.
“I will sacrifice never coming back to EastEnders again just so we can have a fox and a rat rummaging through the bins as my final clip.
“I would sacrifice that for this soap, that’s how giving I am. Kill me off just for that, I don’t need to work ever again just for that, for that one scene.”
EastEnders fans were left in tears at Lola's final scene and the poetic conclusion to the episode as one viewer tweeted: "#Eastenders and the Lola storyline has broken my heart. Amazing acting from all involved and actress who plays Honey in particular. The way the fox was written into it all made it even more emotional."
"No I’ve just watched the episode where Lola dies and lost it at the fox running across the square #EastEnders," another shared and a third added: "I don't watch EastEnders but, as someone who has lost relatives to cancer, this hit me hard. That fox at the end just got me. RIP Lola."
