EastEnders fan-favourite Lola Pearce (played by Danielle Harold) looks set to be killed off in dramatic scenes in a huge storyline in the summer. The news has been met with an outcry from viewers of the BBC soap opera. This wouldn't be the first-time that EastEnders has hit the headlines in the past week as the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall visited the Square for the Platinum Jubilee, which you can read about here.
After the news was broken to the actress, who only had six months left on her contract, she was reportedly left 'teary'. It could be one of several axings brought in by new showrunner, Chris Clenshaw. This isn't uncommon as whenever EastEnders gets a new executive producer, they are known to make drastic changes in relation to their grand vision for the show.
Lola's death means the door to Albert Square will probably remain closed to the actress forever - unless they bring her back from the dead like they did with the Den Watts character. A soap insider told The Sun newspaper that: "She was not expecting the chop because her character has been a firm favourite with viewers."

Taking to Twitter, fans of EastEnders expressed their shock at the axing. Chelaz1999 said: "You better not be killing off Lola Pearce!!! Expect uproar if you go ahead with this"
yukimurasdean simply put: "LOLA PEARCE U CANNOT LEAVE ME" in outcry at Chris Clenshaw's decision to get rid of the character.

Danielle Harold has played Lola Pearce since 2011 and her exit from EastEnders wouldn't be the first time that she has left Walford. The character was written out once before in 2015 but luckily for fans, made a reappearance in 2019.
During her time on the show, Lola has been the subject of many popular storylines including having a daughter with Ben Mitchell, friendships with Abi Branning and also, a relationship with Peter Beale. Since her return in 2019, fans have been desperate to see the character involved in more storylines and hence, the news of her departure has been met with disappointment.
