EastEnders made a big change to the opening credits on Wednesday night, clearly signalling that emotional scenes were about to air on the BBC soap.
The usual blue, grey and green titles were replaced with a much darker image, similarly used during the 2020 boat crash on the show that saw Dennis Rickman Jr killed off.
On Wednesday fans knew that it would be Lola's final episode, and that she would pass away after her battle with a brain tumour.
As the episode began, the famous credits were black which left fans fearing what was ahead, and many confessed the tears were already flowing.
Then at the end of the episode, moments after Lola's final scenes, the credits faded to black instead of the usual credits - with Julia's Theme playing too.
Taking to Twitter, viewers shared their reactions to the credit change as many confessed they could tell the scenes were going to be "emotional".
One viewer said: "For today's episode, the intro is dark . This is going to be a rough one to watch."
Another agreed: "Anybody else start crying at the opening credits just because they were black and you knew what was coming?"
A third viewer said: "No spoilers but you know it’s going to be an emotional episode when the opening titles are dark."
During the episode, Lola's loved ones prepared for the end after being told by the nurse that she did not have long.
As dying Lola remained unconscious, her loved ones including husband Jay Brown said their goodbyes and told her to "go peacefully".
Towards the end of the episode, Lola passed away with daughter Lexi asleep next to her, while Jay had just stepped out of the room.
Jay broke down as the sun came up, and he realised his wife was gone - with Lexi soon discovering the same as she woke up to see Jay sobbing.
As EastEnders' famous Julia's Theme played in a change to the end credits, the background faded to black. The moment left viewers in floods of tears, as they said goodbye to Lola.
EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
