EastEnders' fans react as Duke and Duchess of Cornwall make their soap opera debut for Platinum Jubilee

Albert Square got itself two royal visitors on Thursday, June 2 as the Duchess of Cornwall made cameo appearances in EastEnders. The scenes, which commemorated the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, were divisive with viewers as some praised the cameo as "magical" and others called it "cringy". The royals appearance in EastEnders is just one of the Jubilee celebrations happening over the weekend - read more here.

In the special episode, residents of the Square were stunned as the royals turned up at a street party marking the Jubilee. Departing Mick Carter, played by Danny Dyer, told customers at the Vic that the "special guest or guests would not disappoint" as they all prepared for the royal arrival.

As Albert Square got ready for the royal arrival, Rocky Cotton hosted a party in which Whitney Dean (or 'Whitney Spears') sang 'Toxic' by Britney Spears. The moment was slammed on social media as "cringe" by binky1234 on Twitter.

Charles and Camilla partied with the residents of Walford (PA)

Towards the end of the episode, one person who was particularly pleased that Charles and Camilla had shown up, was everyone's favourite rum drinker Patrick Trueman. As he welcomed the Duchess to Walford, he told her that a drop of rum "keeps the doctor away", prompting laughter from other cast members. Camilla tells Patrick that she'd tried his techniques in Trinidad.

Taking to Twitter to respond to the episode, Damiscoco said: "How did they get the royals on eastenders pls"

John_murphy1 wrote: "I've just switched over and Charles & Camilla are talking to Danny Dyer in EastEnders and I've never taken acid but maybe this is what it feels like?"

Elliot_gonzalez said: "All that money, and not a penny spent on acting lessons it seems." He also jokingly told his followers that he can't wait for the "Christmas episode where Patrick's seven-month affair with Camilla is revealed."

RTovey, meanwhile, praised the appearance and commented: "Having to stay in character in front the royals must be so awkward."

He wouldn't be alone as BillynMeaner described Charles and Camilla's cameo as "absolutely magical". Dominic Smith said: "That was a bit special". On the fence was Joe Stutter, who said: "This is so cringy but good at the same time."

The special Jubilee episode ended with a royal rendition of the iconic EastEnders theme tune.
