EastEnders compares Queen's death to country 'losing its nan' as soap pays tribute

Denise Diane Parish Kathy Beale Linda Carter Denise Fox King Charles III Queen Elizabeth II

EastEnders paid tribute to the late Queen in its episode on Monday (September 12). The instalment opened with a scene in which the monarch's death was described as "devastating" and like the entire country "losing its nan".

The tribute came before the BBC soap's opening credits. Characters Linda Carter, Denise Fox and Kathy Beale gathered around a picture of the monarch in the Queen Vic pub.

As Linda, played by Kellie Bright, adjusts a picture of the Queen, Denise (Diane Parish) says: “God bless her, she’s been there our whole lives. It’s like she’s everything we’ve ever known.”
