EastEnders' Cindy Beale back 'from the dead' on BBC soap as fans go wild

EastEnders fans went wild on Wednesday night, as Cindy Beale returned 'from the dead' in the final scene of the latest episode, 25 years after being killed off in an off screen death.

There has been a lot of speculation over the last week that the mysteriously missing Rose Knight, from Albert Square's new family could in fact by Ian Beale's ruthless ex wife, but it wasn't until the dying seconds that the rumours proved to be true. George Knight has been desperate to track Rose, the mother of his two daughters down, even enlisting the help of Walford veteran Phil Mitchell to help her.

In the last few minutes of Wednesday night's show, Phil told George that the Spanish police had no record of anyone with the name Rose Knight and, distraught and angry, he drowned his sorrows in the Queen Vic, putting Seal's 90s classic Kiss from a Rose on the jukebox as he dialled her number. He received no answer and that's when the camera cut to a woman looking at her phone and, after it panned away to show the lady in question sitting by a pool, it was revealed to be Cindy right at the death, as the EastEnders icon got ready to take a sip of wine.

Cindy, who infamously had an affair with David Wicks and ran off with two of Ian Beale's kids, last appeared on screen in 1997. She was tracked down by Ian and the Mitchell brothers, with Ian taking Stephen and Peter back to London with him. Cindy showed up in Walford but, right after being awarded custody of her children, was thrown behind bars after the hitman she hired to try and kill Ian, revealed he carried out the shooting on her orders.

Viewers were told that she died in prison during childbirth at the end of 1998, with her baby daughter Cindy, who later came to Albert Square, surviving er.

Fans reactions to Cindy's return were crazy, with Twitter full of reactions as credits rolled. One excited viewer tweeted: "Not fricking Cindy Beale risen from the dead! The drama is going to be explosiveeeee! EastEnders is EastEndering right now," with a second posting: "What amazing storylines EastEnders is giving us. Cindy Beale Simply Yes Yes Yes Duff Duff Duff Duff Duff Duff"
