East Renfrewshire 'voter confusion' fears as councillor finds SNP rival has almost identical name

An independent councillor in East Renfrewshire has raised concerns over “voter confusion” at May’s election after the SNP fielded a rival candidate with an almost identical name.

Cllr David Macdonald is standing for re-election in the Clarkston, Netherlee and Williamwood ward while David Tam McDonald is one of the SNP candidates for the seat.

The incumbent councillor, one of four in the ward, which includes the SNP’s Annette Ireland, has asked his opponent to stand “using the names we use in everyday life”
