East Lothian holiday spot with stunning treehouses named top UK glamping site

A holiday site with a difference just a short drive from Edinburgh has been named one of the best glamping spots in the country.

Conde Nast have featured East Lothian regularly in their recent UK-wide roundups and the area again got namechecked this week.

The luxury magazine published their guide to the best glamping in the UK for an indulgent al-fresco trip, including destinations the length and breadth of Britain including in Wales, the Lake District and Lincolnshire.

However closer to home, a holiday location much-loved for its stunning treehouses made the list.

Harvest Moon, which sits on the coast between North Berwick and Dunbar offers glamping by the beach in the eyecatching treehouses, beach cabins and a beautiful cottage.

As described by the owners: "All treehouses and beach cabins have wood-burning stoves, en-suite WC and hot showers.

"On site, we also have a farm shop, BBQ and campfire facilities as well as our Kids Corner with chickens, alpacas, lambs and pygmy goats.

"Quietly nestled behind the magnificent Tyninghame Beach, this is the perfect location for kids to explore the great Scottish outdoors and for you to relax, get back to nature and enjoy some family time together."

And Conde Nast writers hailed it as being the best in the UK for beach game, lavishing praise on the family-friendly vacation spot as a real place to be for summer.

They said: "The big thrill here is watching your crew run wild by the sea, dune-sliding on sledges, then telling stories by firelight. At camp, they will be kept busy wheelbarrowing logs, jumping on a giant, land-lubbed buoy, toasting marshmallows over the embers and hugging rabbits.

"Just 40 minutes' drive from Edinburgh, these tents and newer stilted treehouses were set up by Alex Dale, banker turned glamper, whose farmer parents own the land.

"The decor is cute hippy, with hearts carved into wooden doors, and the wee kitchens have running water in Belfast sinks and a log-fuelled cooker (bring a moka pot for espresso). There's a flushing loo and hot shower behind each tent.

"Raid the honesty shop, housed in an old boat, for chocolate bars – off-site, there's Knowes Farm Shop for sticky toffee pud and other provisions while North Berwick, seven miles away, has fish and chips, and the Herringbone gastro bar."
