An East Lothian gran has been left 'shaken' after a raging driver shouted 'get a move on' while she was making her way across the road with a friend.
Ruby Hay, 73 from Musselburgh went out to Lucas at Musselburgh High Street on Monday afternoon when the gran of one and a pal were berated by a motorist for taking their time crossing the busy street.
It was the first time Ruby had been out in months, using her crutches instead of her wheelchair due to her painful rheumatoid arthritis and now doesn't want to leave the house again due to the distressing experience.
Speaking to Edinburgh Live Ruby said: "The incident happened today when I was out getting ice cream with my friend. The bit that really got me, was usually I use my wheelchair but today I wanted to push myself and walk and I was so pleased with myself and then this happened.
"I was just crossing the road to Lucas and he was waiting at the lights to go towards Edinburgh, he started pointing his fingers to hurry up and you could see he was getting mad.
"He shouted 'get a move on' and before we had even gotten off the road he sped past overtaking us."
She continued: "It was absolutely awful, I have been so annoyed all day thinking about it. I just couldn’t believe how he behaved."
The gran has been in excruciating pain due to arthritis in her feet over the last couple of months and now doesn’t want to venture out again.
She said: "I was on two crutches and taking my time to get to the other side of the road. I was at the hospital the last week getting injections in my feet to relieve the pain.
"I'm not going to let him get the better of me. I have been trying to build up my walking but it really puts me off going out.
"The arthritis has been really bad the last six months I have never known pain like it."
Ruby's daughter Ann said: "If you were the driver who was going off your head because my pensioner mother was crossing the road with two walking sticks and telling her to get a move on, shame on you.
"I hope you never have to suffer the pain she's in and good on you by the way that was her first time out walking in months."
