Aaron Connolly doesn’t know if he wants to take on the East Kilbride Thistle manager’s job full-time, but will take the team again on Saturday for their West of Scotland League Third Division clash against Finnart.
Caretaker boss Connolly was delighted with his side’s performance in the 2-0 win over Carluke Rovers on Saturday and hopes for the same this weekend at the Showpark.
But he says whether he takes the reins full-time, following the sacking of Garry O’Hanlon last week, is up in the air.
Either way, player-coach Connolly expects to be involved with the Jags, but isn’t sure in what capacity.
He said: “I’m still very much in the same place as I was last week. I think it’s very difficult to judge things based on the first week that we’ve just had.
“It’s only one result and I think the players need to look on how they build on that, and maintain those sorts of levels.
“There were so many other things going on, it was so raw, it was so fresh for everyone, so I’m in no place to make a commitment either way, at this stage.
“I have no clue what I want to do. I probably will be involved in the club in some way. I’ve committed a lot of time and effort to the club in a lot of ways, and there are things on and off the pitch that I’m involved in.
“I’m probably going to have some level of continuity, I just don’t know in what role that will be.”
Connolly added: “I think the club are really keen on stability, if we can get it, given the upheaval that there has been – not even just in the last few months, but over a number of years, now.
“The club will make a decision beyond that.
“We had a conversation on Sunday with the committee, and then I spoke to Martin Steele and Colin Hutchinson, the staff who are assisting me, and we all agreed we just go again.
“It’s another game, it’s another opportunity for us and I’ll be hopeful that we can go and get another positive week and start to turn the corner a little bit from what has been a particularly challenging week for the club.
“I’m hoping this week will just feel that little bit more settled, for me, personally, and also for the players and all the people in the club.
“If I can get the same out of them as I did on Saturday I’d be absolutely delighted. That would mean we’re doing something right during the week.”
