East Kilbride Pirates sink Cambridgeshire Cats to end 11-year wait for British title

East Kilbride Pirates lifted a British title for the first time in 11 years on Sunday with a convincing 50-12 win over Cambridgeshire Cats in the Division One BritBowl final.

The town’s American football team had already secured their league title and promotion to the top flight for next season going into the clash in London, but they put the icing on the cake, dominating their English rivals.

Local man and quarterback Neil Baptie was MVP as he helped them to victory, having been one of just three squad members remaining from their 2011 success.

Pirates head coach Andrew McGowan said: “I started with the Pirates the same year as Neil so it means a lot to me personally to share this moment with me.

“He’s just been excellent. He’s a great leader, a great athlete and a great guy.

“There’s that underlying feeling that we deserve to be in the Prem and we are delighted to be back.”
